ABOUT

Steeton Working Men’s Club was founded in the early 1900s and the premises were originally two cottages which then turned into one big one. The club bought the building from the co operative in the 1970s.

The club was originally named Pondokkie Working Men’s Club, in recent times the club is better known as Pondock, The Dock or Steeton Working Men’s Club.

Pondokkie is a South African word meaning “improvised from available materials”. This modest little club, occupying two former cottages in Low Fold, was so named by several of its founder-members who had served in the Boer War.

The club as it stands today underwent a refurbishment in recent years. This includes a brand new bar and bar area along with brand new toilet facilities.

This was a major step in ensuring the club and its members have a comfortable environment with the latest facilities and equipment, that is needed to accompany the old and new generations.

The club has grown to a current day membership of around 300.

We have a games room which you can play Darts and Dominoes. We have a slot machine in the bar room, along with running a monthly members draw. The club offer free Wi-Fi to it’s members and we accept all card and contactless payments.

The club is ran on a volunteer basis by the committee with a club secretary, a club treasurer and a number of trustees.
